Review
Profound Review
Best-in-class coverage and procurement credentials at $399/mo entry. A reporting platform, and priced as though it were more.
Strengths
- Broadest engine coverage of any tool in this set.
- Strongest enterprise security and compliance story, which is often the deciding factor in procurement.
- Agent and crawler analytics are mature and well regarded.
- The most established brand in the category, which makes internal buy-in easier.
Limitations
- At $399/mo the entry plan is four times CiteCue's Pro tier, and there is no free plan to trial with real data.
- Reporting-led rather than remediation-led: it tells you what is wrong and leaves the fixing to you.
- We found no published equivalent of agent task testing or automatic page variants.
- Enterprise pricing is opaque, which slows evaluation for mid-market teams.
Assessment of Profound
What it is
Profound is the best-known platform in the AEO category and the one most likely to appear on an enterprise shortlist by default. It monitors brand visibility across a broad set of AI engines, analyses citations and conversations, and provides crawler and agent analytics.
It is, in our assessment, a very good reporting platform. The question is whether reporting is what you are short of.
Strengths
Engine coverage. Reported at ten or more engines, the broadest here. Nothing else in this set matches it, and for categories with meaningful Copilot, Grok or DeepSeek traffic that is a decisive advantage.
Crawler and agent analytics. Mature and well regarded. Importantly, this covers the technical half of AEO — whether crawlers reach your pages at all — which several competitors leave entirely unmeasured. It is Profound's most underrated strength.
Enterprise posture. SSO, compliance documentation, security review. Anyone who has taken a tool through a large vendor assessment knows this frequently decides the outcome regardless of features.
Institutional safety. Recommending the category leader is easier to defend internally than recommending a challenger, and that has genuine organisational value.
Weaknesses
No remediation layer. The central limitation. Profound tells you a competitor is winning citations on your priority prompts. It does not draft the fix, schedule the work, or serve a corrected page. Every finding becomes staffed effort.
This interacts badly with its main strength. A platform that generates more findings than any competitor, with no mechanism to act on them, accelerates the growth of a backlog rather than the delivery of improvements — unless you already have analyst and content capacity dedicated to AEO. Enterprises often do. Mid-market teams generally do not.
Price and evaluability. $399/mo entry with no documented free plan means the first look at your own data goes through a sales cycle. CiteCue's free tier and $99 Pro make the same first look cost nothing.
No documented agent task testing. Given how strong the crawler analytics are, the absence of agent task-completion testing is a notable gap. Profound can tell you a crawler reached your pricing page; it does not tell you an agent could not read the price once there.
Opaque enterprise pricing. Reported into the thousands per month, quoted custom. Slows evaluation and makes budgeting difficult.
No published citation-factor model. Citation and conversation analytics are strong on the what, thinner on the why. Attribution to named factors is what makes remediation targeted, and it is largely absent.
Who should buy it
Strong fit: enterprises with procurement requirements; organisations needing coverage beyond the major four engines; teams with dedicated analyst and content capacity; buyers for whom vendor-risk posture outweighs cost.
Weaker fit: mid-market teams without remediation capacity; anyone wanting to evaluate before committing budget; agencies needing multi-brand economics, where $399 for one enterprise seat compares poorly with CiteCue's Agency tier covering three projects and fifteen seats at the same price.
Verdict
Rated 4.1 out of 5. Excellent at what it does, and what it does is report. The engine breadth and enterprise credentials are real and worth paying for if you need them specifically.
If you do not, the $399 is better spent on a platform that also acts. See CiteCue vs Profound for the direct comparison and Profound vs Peec AI for how it looks against the budget end of the category.

Frequently asked
- [1]Who is Profound built for?
- Large enterprises with procurement processes, compliance requirements and existing analyst capacity. It is not aimed at, or priced for, a single marketer validating the channel.
- [2]What is its strongest feature?
- Engine breadth. Reported coverage of ten or more engines is the widest in the category, and it matters if your buyers use surfaces beyond the big four.
- [3]What is missing?
- Automated remediation. We found no documented scheduled fix drafting, automatic page variants or llms.txt serving. Agent task testing is also undocumented.
- [4]Is there a free trial?
- We found no documented free plan or public self-serve trial. Evaluation typically runs through a sales process.
